Induction Workshop Series

ARIN offers a series of induction workshops designed for teachers new to the profession and/or new to a district to help them meet state-mandated induction program requirements.

YEAR ONE

Let us Supplement Your Year 1 Induction Plan

ARIN Intermediate Unit will offer a series of four trainings for new teachers. These in-person sessions feature interactive learning designed to assist new teachers and enhance their instruction during their first year of teaching. The following options are available to meet your district's needs.

  • Welcome to Education
  • Special Education for All Teachers
  • Understanding the Standards/Curriculum and Universal Design for Learning
  • What Would You Do? Dealing with At-Risk Student Issues, Trauma and SEL

Although the trainings are designed with first year teachers in mind, you can still choose to send a teacher that is new to your district, returning to teaching after taking a few years off, or someone that completed year one elsewhere and is completing year 2 of induction in your district.

This training will look at a variety of topics that are important to all new teachers. Time will be spent looking at induction, the importance of the mentor/mentee relationship, and making the most of this opportunity. New teachers will receive information on ACT 13, how they will be evaluated, and what this evaluation means for them. They will have time to explore the TIMS website, as well as reviewing what is required to earn their level two certification. Along with these resources, new teachers will have time to investigate the many resources that can be found on the SAS portal.

We will finish out the day focusing on classroom management, and the do's and don'ts in the world of education. Professionalism, equity for all students, and best practices will be stressed during this time.

Special Education for All Teachers

This training will focus on special education for all teachers in the educational setting. Time will be devoted to looking at an example IEP, knowing what their responsibility is in regards to the IEP, and the important roles they play in developing an IEP as a general education teacher. We will also spend time looking at 504 plans and gifted education.

Education is well known for its wide use of acronyms such as IEP, GIEP, NOREP, FBA, PBSP and more, and often used as if everyone should know what they stand for. Time will not only be spent defining these acronyms, but we will take a deeper dive at what each one truly is, and why it is important. These are legally binding documents that all teachers are expected to follow, and many times teachers are unclear of what their roles are when it comes to implementing them.

With an increase in the student population with social and emotional needs, it is also important that all new teachers are familiar with implementing behavior plans, understanding antecedents, and motivating our at-risk students. For this reason, we will spend time looking at how theses plans are developed, why they are included in an IEP, and again, the role of the general education teacher in following these plans.

The day will conclude with a focus on co-teaching, as this will most likely occur throughout their school day. We will spend time looking at what co-teaching really is, the different models of co-teaching, and making the most of the support staff in the room.

Understanding the Standards, Curriculum and Universal Design for Learning

The standards will be broken down to better help teachers understand what the different numbers mean, as well as how the standards move across grade levels. They will have time to look at their grade level standards, or subject standards, and if a tested grade, how those standards are weighted on the state assessment. There will be an emphasis on teaching to these standards, and making sure that they are covered, while using the curriculum as a guide. In addition to looking at the standards, teachers will discuss different types of assessments, the importance of these assessments, and using the data to drive instruction.

The second half of our day will focus on Universal Design for Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Putting the use of the standards and assessments to drive our instruction, but doing so in a way that is accessible to all learners, and meets the wide variety of learning needs in the classroom. Participants will explore ways that AI, when used ethically and efficiently, can help us create well rounded lessons to meet the needs of our of our learners.

There will be time spent looking at common ACES students are experiencing and ways to help them overcome these ACEs.

Registration Details

At this time, each training is offered on two separate days to help districts with issues in finding coverage for teachers to attend and keep training size smaller. Please split up your teachers evenly when giving them dates to register. If there are not enough new teachers to require 2 days for each training, then the date with the * will be the only day offered.

Registrants will need to register for each training they are planning to attend. The cost per training is $75, and will include lunch for attendees. Districts will be billed at the conclusion of the trainings. A discounted rate of $70/sessions will be offered for any teacher that attends all four in-person sessions. Completion of each session will be awarded 6 ACT 48 hours, and will run 8:30-3:00 each day.
